New Baltimore Anchor Bay High School senior Zach Rubicz has committed to the University of Detroit Mercy to further his athletic and academic career. Rubicz will be running cross country and track for the Titans.

While a student-athlete at Anchor Bay, Rubicz competed at the varsity level all four years of high school in cross country and track, along with running indoor track. He has a personal best of 16:22 for the 5K and was a part of the first Anchor Bay cross country team to qualify for the Division 1 state finals since 1977.

Rubicz competed in the Romeo Barnyard Invitational Elite Mile in both 2022 and 2023 (with a personal best of 4:30), was named to the Macomb County Academic Team, and earned second-team Macomb All-County honors in 2021, 2022, and 2023 for cross country.

Rubicz says he chose the University of Detroit Mercy because: "I loved the business school at U of D and the team seemed welcoming for me to run cross country and track. It's a smaller school with great programs and the CPA (certified public accountant test) pass rate is excellent.”

Congratulations, Zach!
