Cros-Lex Girls, Richmond Boys Win Skippers Cross Country Showcase



Already pegged as the pre-season BWAC league and regional favorite, the Croswell-Lexington girls decisively took first place at Friday’s Skippers Cross Country Showcase at Goodells Park, leaving no doubt they are the team to chase. Sweeping the first four spots, the Pioneers had five girls place in the top ten. Eva Thompson led her team with an individual victory in 20:00, closing in on the nineteen-minute mark. Morgan Newton was second, Brynn Hurley third, Abagayle Barkley fourth, and Eliza Nelson seventh. Madison O’Connor (12th) and Jaylynn Maduri (17th) rounded out Cros-Lex’s top seven, scoring 17 points.


The Richmond girls finished second as a team, scoring 45 points. Brianna Albers (5th) and Paulina Chapman (8th) broke up the Pioneer’s choke hold on the top ten spots, along with teammates Kelsey Pendry (11th), Natalia Pace (13th), and Sidney James (14th) breaking into the top 20. Almont also had several girls in the top 20: Laila Evola (9th), Savanna Siewert (15th), Amanda Fitchett (16th), and Montserrat Coronel (20th). Julia Rogers of Kimball New Life Christian was the school’s lone female runner, taking tenth place.



Ben Gura of New Life Christian was the boys’ individual winner, who paced the field with an 18:19. His teammate Sam Keller also placed seventh. Richmond took the team victory with 38 points, led by Kaleb Manska (4th) and followed closely by a tight pack of Preston Corneillie (10th), Donovan Germain (11th), Sawyer Rosberg (12th), Brendan Yera (15th), and Mason Brickel (16th).


Almont gave Richmond a run for the team title, taking second with a total of 51, only a 13-point difference. Colton Grzyb was fifth, Gavin Campbell ninth, Jacob Biolchini 13th, Benjamin Kline 19th, and Jamin Siewert 20th. The Raiders’ sixth and seventh runners were only seconds behind, with Adam SaintOnge and Johnny Roland taking 22nd and 23rd, respectively.


Caden Dustan ran individually for Landmark Academy, finishing 30th.
