The Vikings and the Saints got their first taste of season competition within the league after a postponement from Friday due to weather. Jack Weigan got St. Clair off on the right foot towards their 17-point victory, winning all four of his events.  He was the 100/200-meter winner (11.86/24.02) and then helped anchor two winning relays: the 4x100 finished in 47.36 and the 4x400 in 3:45. Colin Boullard was victorious in the 300-meter hurdles in his best time yet: 42.99.  He was third in the 110-meter hurdle event and was part of the 4x400. Cooper Pennewell had a huge toss of 123-6 in the discus, throwing his way into the number three spot on the Blue Water Area performance list.  Other major contributors were Dylan Distelrath winning the 1600 in 4:55 (plus the 4x800) and Jerry Westrick (800/1600/4x800).

A different Distelrath helped Marysville score points in the jumps, with Garret Distelrath winning the long jump (18-9) and placing second in the high jump (5-9), while his teammate Brennan Francek won, clearing the bar at six feet.  Trent Glass won the 800 in 2:08 for the Vikings and Mason Delor topped 9-6 in the pole vault.  The 4x200-meter relay also snagged a first-place finish for Marysville.

The Vikings got the edge in the girls’ meet scoring, winning over the Saints by 30.  Janae Hudson was once again dominant in the throws, taking first in shot put and discus by large margins.  She threw 43-7.5 and 134-7, respectively, and her discus measurement was 42 feet farther than second place.  Paige Sheldon won the high jump (4-10) and pole vault (7’).  Carlee Woolum took the 400-meter dash in 64.26 and helped both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays secure first place in 1:58.35/4:46.  Joselyn Chapman chipped in points by winning the 1600 (6:18) and running her best time to take second in the 800 (2:49) to her teammate, Addison Stevens (2:47).

Tessa Meredith gave St. Clair a double victory in the hurdles, winning the 100 hurdles in 18.79 and the 300 hurdles in 58.83.  Isabella Bratt claimed the 100-meter dash for the Lady Saints in her personal best of 14.01 and snagged a close runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.69.

Grace Clemens of North Branch and Sadie Dykstra of Yale were four-for-four in all their events at Tuesday’s Blue Water Area Conference matchup at Richmond High School, setting up the stage for a clash of these two female powerhouse stars at the league championship in May. The Broncos narrowly edged out the Bulldogs by six points. Clemens won the 100 (12.9), 200 (27.21), 400 (62.8), and 4x100 relay (53.99).  Dykstra was victorious in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles (16.25/53.57), the long jump (17-10.5), and was part of the winning 4x200 relay (1:54.74).  Rowan Conley of North Branch was three-for-three across a variety of races, winning the 1600 (6:18), the 4x800 relay (11:25), the 4x100, and also placing second in the 3200 in 13:41, a personal best.  Madeline Sepsey of Yale has been a strong freshman addition to the Bulldogs’ Track and Field roster, as she was part of the winning 4x200 and 4x400 (4:36.34) meter relays and took second in the 400 in 64.17, a personal best.  Keirra Taube was also on the 4x400 relay, along with winning the high jump in 5-2. Lainee Wagner won both the shot put and discus for Richmond in 32-11.5 and 100-03, respectively.  These were personal bests for Wagner in both events.  Brianna Albers won the 3200 for the Blue Devils in 13:30.

On the boys’ side, Ethan Dinanath of North Branch once again swept the sprint events, completing the 100-200-400 triple.  He went 11.61 in the 100, 23.47 in the 200, and 53.86 in the 400 for the Broncos.  His teammate Micheal Gorman is showing strength as a sophomore, taking second to Dinanath in the 100 in 11.86 and helping bring the 4x200-meter relay to victory in 1:36.  Ty Laforest of Yale set personal bests in all his events on Tuesday, taking third in the 100 (11.96) and 200 (24.33) and second in the high jump (5-6).  Richmond’s Joseph Pacitto was fifth in the 100 (12.10) and 200 (24.6 PR), along with a victory in the 110-meter hurdles in a season-best of 16.35.  Brett Bearrs won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 43.6 - a season record thus far - and chipped in on the winning 4x400 with Leo Bearrs, Jackson Kohler, and Blake Dudley in 3:40.

In the throwing circle, Zack Haywood of Richmond bested Eli Bickel of North Branch in the discus, throwing 123-03 to Bickel’s 116-07, but Bickel took the shot put victory in 44-07 to Haywood’s 41-10.5.  As both athletes are only sophomores, this makes for an interesting BWAC rivalry for years to come.
