Yale High School senior Blake Ferguson has committed to Ferris State University to further his athletic and academic career. Ferguson will be running cross country and track, but won’t have to change his mascot, as he will remain a Bulldog.

While a student-athlete at Yale, Ferguson competed at the varsity level in cross country and track all four years of high school, along with running indoor track. He has a personal best of 16:10 for the 5K and was the 2023 Blue Water Area Conference (BWAC) Cross Country MVP, winning two out of three league jamborees.  He was third in his regional and the Thumb Area Cross Country Championships, and the Yale Bulldogs won league, regional, and Thumb Area team titles. He qualified for the Division II Cross Country State Finals each year of his high school career.

On the track, Ferguson has bests of 2:01 for the 800, 4:35 in the 1600, and 9:55 for the 3200.  He was the 2023 BWAC league champion in the 800 and 4x800 meter relay and runner-up in the 800 at the Blue Water Meet of Champions.  The Bulldogs’ 4x800 relay won the league, region, Thumb Area Champs meet, and broke the school record multiple times, ultimately running 7:57.16 to place seventh at the DII state finals and earn a podium finish.  Ferguson was All-State Academic for both cross country and track.

Ferguson says he’s interested in studying Surveying Engineering and chose Ferris State because "Ferris was one of the few schools to offer what I was looking to go into. The coach and teammates were friendly.  The college felt safe and clean and gave off a small-town feel.”

Congratulations, Blake!
